Curved museum pays homage to the nature and traditions of the Wadden Sea

 

Already when seen from afar, the soft curves of the thatched roof reveal that something special is located here. The wondrous blend of something known and something different pays homage to the beautiful landscape on the western coast of Denmark. The colors of the house compliment the surrounding flora, and the tall thatching on the roof refers to the traditional building techniques of the region.

 

Underneath the roof is a museum dedicated to the natural life of the nearby Wadden Sea. The museum is an extension of an existing farmhouse. In order to create a natural flow through the museum, the extension extrudes the facade of the farmhouse and wraps it around a core that pierces through the roof, letting in daylight from above. Rounded walls create intriguing exhibition spaces and allow the visitor to completely emerge into the world of the Wadden Sea.
